Valley Girl is, Like, Rad

In 1983 a like, totally rad movie came out called, called like, Valley Girl. I was too young to appreciate it at the time, but a couple of decades later when I finally saw the film, I loved it.
The film stars a totally rad punk guy named Randy (played by Nicholas Cage, who was slated to play Brad in Fast Times, and instead played one of Brad’s buds).
When Randy meets preppy Valley Girl Julie (played by Deborah Foreman), like–omigod!, sparks fly and they totally fall for each other.
Julie must choose between wild-boy Randy, who her friends think is like, totally uncool, and her popular jock boyfriend (played by Mark Bowen).
So Julie’s friends think Randy is grody to the max, but she thinks he’s totally rad–what’s a “Val” girl to do?
Valley Girl is one of my favorite Nicholas Cage films–I think he’s amazing in it, partly because he plays the dark, brooding outsider to perfection, and partly because the movie is so 80s.
The soundtrack is also great. I still get weak in the knees when I hear “I Melt With You” by Modern English and “Love My Way” by Psychedelic Furs.
For anyone who thinks the 80s are rad, Valley Girl is a must have film–like, totally!
