The Magic of Say Anything

Mention Lloyd Dobler to any woman who was in her teens during the 80s, and you’re likely to witness a dreamy, far-away look in her eyes.
The fictional Dobler, brought to life by the amazing talents of John Cusack, was the stuff that makes girls swoon. Cute, funny and smart, Dobler was both sensitive and strong.
He claimed many hearts in 1989’s Say Anything, a film about a young man on the cusp of adulthood who helps shape the lives of all around him for the better.
The film, which was written and directed by Cameron Crowe, also starred Ione Skye as Dobler’s love interest, John Mahoney as her father, Lili Taylor as one of Dobler’s best friends, and Joan Cusack, Eric Stoltz and Jeremy Piven in small but memorable roles.
And yes, the soundtrack rocked. The image of Dobler holding up a boom box and blasting Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” is an iconic image from the film.
Say Anything(and Lloyd Dobler) is romantic, thoughtful and still makes me swoon.

Another great date movie! Reminds us of the good old days when a song said it better then a hallmark card…
